Do you want to enroll for National Identification Number (NIN)?

The National Identification Number (NIN) links all records related to an individual in the NIMC database and it is used in establishing and verifying individual's identity. All citizens and legal residents in Nigeria, starting from birth and throughout their lives, are eligible to enroll for their NINs.

This guide provides a comprehensive, step-by-step approach for the layman to successfully enroll in the NIN process.

Enrollment For Adults

Step 1: Gather Your Documents

Ensure you have the necessary documents required for NIN enrollment. These include your BVN (if available) and any of the following original and valid supporting documents:

  • Old National ID Card
  • Driver’s License
  • Voter’s card (Temporary or Permanent)
  • Nigerian International passport
  • Certificate of Origin
  • Attestation letter from a prominent ruler in your community
  • Birth certificate
  • Declaration of age
  • Attestation letter from religious/traditional leader
  • NHIS ID card
  • Government staff ID card
  • Registered/recognized private organization staff ID card
  • School ID Card (private/public)
  • Tax Clearance certificate
  • Valid immigration documents
  • Nigerian Commission for Refugees (NCFR) Refugee Certificate
  • Refugee ID card
  • Refugee Factsheet

Step 2. Enrollment

Walk into the nearest NIMC enrollment center in your area with the gathered documents. Inform the staff or agent of your intention to enroll for the NIN.

  • If you haven't enrolled before, you will be issued an enrollment form to fill. Provide accurate information on the form.
  • If you pre-enrolled online, the NIMC agent will collect your printed Barcode slip which you got from the pre-enrolment service.

Step 3. Verification Process

The NIMC agent will verify your documents and information against the supporting document provided and to check for errors/mistake filled on the form.

Step 3. Biometric Capture: 

Your details will be entered into the NIMC software by an enrollment officer, or the Barcode slip can be scanned to automatically populate the necessary fields and the enrollment officer will proceed to capture your biometrics, including ten fingerprints and a facial image.

  • Ensure you double check your information for errors before your data is submitted.

Step 4. Enrollment Slip

Following the completion of enrollment, you will receive a Transaction ID Slip as proof of the transaction. The agent will provide information on the date for you to return to collect your National Identification Number (NIN).
